King Living Presents Living Spaces with Neale Whitaker

King Living is proud to present ‘Living Spaces.’ Neale Whitaker, in conversation with Australian creatives, discussing their influences, personal style and how they bring the best of Australia to the world.

Neale describes the Australian lifestyle as “confident, relaxed and modern”, with an emphasis on entertaining and enjoying the great outdoors. With its agreeable climate and spectacular natural beauty, it is clear why many Australians have an affinity with nature and entertaining family and friends at home.

The first episode is shot from the stunning coastal suburb of Gordon’s Bay, NSW. With sparkling ocean views and a rugged coastline as a backdrop, Neale is joined by one of Australia’s best regional chefs, Ben Devlin of Paper Daisy at the popular Halcyon House hotel based north of Byron Bay. Growing up in Byron Bay, Ben is no stranger to the outdoors and especially the sea - one of Paper Daisy’s signature dishes consists of fresh pipis with almond, garlic and lemon myrtle. He shares with Neale his take on the Australian lifestyle and entertaining guests, as well as some of his fondest childhood memories.

“The food we serve…we want to have a connection to our natural environment…we want that with the dining experience as well, with the colours and textures we use too."

Neale shares his suggestions for entertaining at home and embracing elements of the gorgeous Australian landscape for the home. For a beautiful dining experience, Neale suggests keeping things simple, yet comfortable, remarking that the best dinner parties are those when you “look at your watch and realise you’ve been sitting at the table for four hours.”

The interiors, created by Style Director at-large for Belle magazine Steve Cordony, are centred around the new Aspen Dining Collection, featuring organic, textural elements which are complemented by warm natural timber. The collection welcomes new additions to the existing range, including sleek sideboards with generous storage, a circular coffee table, as well as bar stools which have been upholstered in luxurious German leather. An elegantly minimal aesthetic is apparent in the stools, which partner perfectly with the Aspen Dining Chairs. Crafted from high quality solid and sustainably sourced American Walnut and Ash Timbers, the range also introduces a new Smoked Oak finish- a rich, dark-chocolate stain which is gorgeous against the clean lines of the residence.

With a styling emphasis on earthy, beachy tones, servingware and table colours are kept neutral. Polished metallic accessories bring a sophisticated contrast to the relaxed look, whilst stools in luxurious leather and chairs in textured fabric work harmoniously to introduce a soft warm element.

Entertaining is an integral part of the Australian lifestyle, and whilst our spaces vary, whether they be sea-facing or inside a charming city terrace, what makes them similar is the love of relaxed dining. King Living’s Aspen Dining range transforms living areas into elegant, inviting spaces for entertaining guests. Together, Ben & Neale bring their ideas and experience to create an inspired, stylish luxurious dining scene which is distinctly Australian.
