Honest Review: is Delta the right sofa for me?

The role the sofa plays in a home should not be underestimated.

More than just a place to sit and watch television, the right sofa beckons you with its comfort while creating the perfect atmosphere for relaxing and gathering with the family.

One sofa that offers unsurpassed comfort and support is Delta. First unveiled in 1998, Delta revolutionised Australian furniture with a fully modular design built for flexible living.

But, despite the comfort and innovative design, we recognise Delta is not the right sofa for everyone.

As the sofa is an essential piece of furniture, KING encourages customers to take the time to research their favourite designs, visit Showrooms and consider all options before making any decisions.

To ensure you understand all the benefits and drawbacks of owning a Delta, this article will explore the pros and cons, including modularity, customisation, price, and care requirements. After reading this article you will know if Delta is the right sofa for you and your home.

Featured in Hamilton Silver, Delta is paired with the Monument Coffee Table, the Seymour Low Swivel Chair in Byron Russet, the Bicheno Rug in Waterfall Silver and the Jasper Occasional Cube in Prestige Palomino.

How is the Delta sofa constructed?

While style and comfort are important considerations for choosing the right sofa, the materials and methods used in construction will make the most significant difference in how your sofa feels and functions.

This is also what separates the sofas built to last a lifetime from those that will need replacing after a few short years.

As a KING sofa, Delta is engineered with our innovative steel frame. Backed by a 25-year guarantee, the steel frame supports the Postureflex® Seating System, giving Delta the strong foundation needed to last a lifetime. This robust combination allows Delta to reconfigure effortlessly while the magnetic Magic Joiners keep the modules connected.

The Postureflex® Seating System works in harmony with KingCell® pocket springs to ensure seat cushions deliver consistent firmness and comfort.

Why the Delta Sofa might not suit you or your home

While Delta is famous for uncompromising comfort and modular flexibility, Delta will not be the perfect fit for every home or every person.

Delta, featured here in Hamilton Belgian Linen, has evolved through the decades while remaining a timeless expression of relaxed Australian style.

The style is simple

Designed to adapt to how you live today, tomorrow and years into the future, Delta offers timeless appeal.

With clean, soft lines, Delta is simple yet sophisticated in style. While this offers a timeless aesthetic, Delta may not be the best choice if you are after something bold or more unique in design. For example, the Fleur is characterised by soft edges and rounded forms, making it sculptural and distinctive. If you prefer a sofa with rectangular forms and geometric features, Kato will be better suited to your aesthetic than Delta.

As a fully modular design built for flexible living, Delta effortlessly converts into a comfortable Queen bed.

The modular design is not for everyone

When introduced in 1998, Delta was the first in its class and revolutionised Australian furniture. Modular components presented a solution of flexibility and adaptability like no other furniture had before.

This flexibility and modularity allow you to change the layout of your sofa and make use of corners, providing more seating for the area.

However, if you are not going to make use of Delta's modularity, this may be an unnecessary feature that only adds additional cost to your sofa.

While Delta's low profile achieves a grounded and contemporary look, the design may not suit everyone's comfort needs.

Delta is an investment

The right sofa for you is one that meets all your needs, including being within your budget.

While Delta is one of our most economical designs, the price is something to be mindful of when deciding if Delta is right for you.

You need to maintain and care for your Delta

As a luxury sofa, there is a level of care and attention needed to protect your Delta and maintain its appearance.

If you are looking for a sofa that has little to no care requirements, Delta may not be right for you.

Delta features Ultradown® feather overlay back cushions and advanced memory foam seat cushions. While this allows for comfortable seating, you will need to regularly plump and fluff the cushions to maintain the shape, feel and appearance.

And, despite only using quality textiles, you will also need to care for the material finish on your Delta. This is regardless of whether you tailor your Delta in leather or fabric.

If you choose a fabric finish for your Delta, we recommend using King Guard® Fabric Protector, which repels spills and stains. It is also important to remove any spills and stains immediately with the KingCare® Spot Cleaner. This helps prevent the spill from penetrating deeply into the fabric and becoming permanent.

Additionally, we recommend using the Leather Care Kit on leather sofas to help protect, condition, and clean your sofa. Regularly conditioning your leather sofa helps maintain the leather and keeps it soft.

Knowing how to care for and maintain your Delta may help you determine if it is the right sofa for you and your lifestyle.

From a three-seater sofa to a chaise lounge, Delta changes seamlessly into numerous configurations.

Why Delta could be the perfect sofa for you

In the words of KING Brand Ambassador Neal Whitaker, “Delta is a classic piece of Australian designed furniture… for a design still to be a best-seller after 20 years is pretty good going. A completely different generation is now buying Delta. That's pretty damn special.

For many customers, this timeless appeal is what makes Delta the perfect sofa for their home. For others, it is the range of customisable options and the modularity.

Modular design gives you greater flexibility

When you buy a new sofa, you typically buy it to suit and fit your current living space.

But, what happens if you move? How can you be sure the sofa you buy today will suit your next home or the one after that?

As a modular sofa, Delta consists of portable sections called modules. This gives you the versatility to arrange your Delta in a range of different configurations to best suit your lifestyle and the layout of your space.

Regardless of the size of your space, Delta will adapt to suit. Designed for flexible living, Delta is a sofa for today, tomorrow, and the future.

The option to effortlessly separate and reassemble the modules also makes your Delta easier to move and transport than a fixed sofa design. As modular sofas are designed to adapt, people tend to keep them for longer. This longevity can be viewed as a good return on investment as owners do not need to replace their sofa each time they move home, or the family expands.

Another benefit of modular design is being able to rotate or reverse sofa cushions. This helps to spread out the wear-and-tear that comes with frequent use and sitting in the same spot.

Tailor your Delta in your choice of premium fabric or luxury European leather. There are more than 200 options for you to choose from.

Customise your Delta with a range of tailorable options

As a made-to-order sofa, you have the freedom to tailor the Delta to suit your exact style and preferences.

Some of Delta's customisable options include:

  • Choosing the material finish
  • Adding in-built shelves
  • Adding additional modules
  • Changing the position of the chaise
  • Deciding on the sofa leg height and finish (Only on the non-storage option)
  • Tailoring with Smart accessories, including integrated lights

Delta also has the option of generous under-seat storage. While the hidden storage makes it easy to stow away items when they are not needed, the storage makes the seat cushion firmer. If you prefer deep-seated comfort and plush seat cushions, we recommend against the under-seat storage.

The adjustable back allows individually customised seat depths for optimum support and comfort.

Removable covers allow for easy washing or a completely fresh look

As with all KING sofas, Delta features removable covers that are easily removed for professional cleaning or replacement by the King Care® team.

Changing the covers on your Delta for an entirely fresh look is a more affordable alternative to purchasing a new sofa. Along with the high-grade steel frame, this is one of the many ways KING ensures your Delta is designed to last a lifetime.

Smart accessories provide additional comfort and versatility.

Smart accessories are another KING feature allowing you to tailor your Delta to provide additional comfort and functionality.

The Smart Pocket™ feature enables a range of smart accessories to integrate seamlessly, including a wireless charging table, LED Lume reading light, and SONOS-compatible speaker brackets

With the Smart Pocket™ arms, the Delta Platform Crescent Table seamlessly integrates with your Delta.

Is Delta the right sofa for you?

Whether setting the tone, anchoring the room or creating the perfect spot to gather as a family, there is nothing quite like the sofa.

And, as an essential piece of furniture in your home, there is a lot to consider before deciding what sofa is right for you.
