First foam furniture
The King family began to make foam furniture from home, selling the original designs at Paddy's Markets. The furniture was so popular, it wasn't long before the first King Furniture Showroom opened in Sydney.
King Furniture introduced the concept of removable covers enabling sofas to be easily refreshed with a new look.
The Polo design launched - the first sofa built on the now-famous King Furniture steel frame. This frame is the hallmark of all sofas in the current collection.
Flagship showroom opens
In the same year, King Furniture moved its manufacturing to Annandale and opened its flagship Showroom in the same location on Parramatta Road. This Showroom continues to be a design destination today.
Introduction of Postureflex® Seating System
The Madison design was released, featuring the Postureflex® Seating System. Similar to the suspension used in luxury European cars such as Porsche and Rolls Royce, this system brought a whole new dimension of luxury and durability to sofa design.
With the addition of adjustable headrests, King Furniture pioneered the flexibility that lets each individual find their own comfort level.
Continued success saw King Furniture move its factory to larger premises in Camperdown, NSW.
